Being the hard-working, entrepreneurial spirit that he is, it's been a long time since Ellezar and I have had a chance to actually sit down and talk shop. The most prominent innovator in what might be considered the second wave of Filipino-American streetwear, Ellezar and his team at The Pnoy Apparel Company are taking their brand to new heights, and resetting the bar for many other apparel companies in our community. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The PGA Group™ joins a panel that will determine the recipient of the 2008-2009 Frederick and Demi Seguritan Scholarship, sponsored by Filipino-American Human Services, Inc. of Queens, NY.
PGA™ president and founder James Berroya explains, "FAHSI is an organization that I'm very happy to support. This scholarship program is an excellent opportunity to serve the community and the youth on an ongoing basis, and I'm honored that PGA™ has been invited to participate this year!"
FAHSI are enlisting several of their own board members for the panel, but are also looking to the local business community for support. "When we realized that we would need someone with a business background to screen the applications, we thought of James immediately," said Johanna Martinez, executive director for FAHSI. "Not only is he a savvy entrepreneur but he is also a dedicated FAHSI volunteer who is passionate about developing the strengths and talents of young people."
The Frederick and Demi Seguritan Scholarship of $5,000 is awarded to one Filipino/Filipino-American graduating high school senior who demonstrates a passion for business and service to the Filipino community. Candidates must also have applied as a full-time student to a 4-year college and present evidence of financial need.
The beneficiary of the Seguritan scholarship will receive a renewable $5,000 award per academic year for a maximum award of $20,000 over four years.

For thousands, Tribal Pinoy has become the iconic symbol of our heritage and ethnic pride as Filipino Americans. Long before the Pnoy Apparel, Pinoy Wear, and Tsinilas clothing companies, T.P. was one of the original Filipino street wear designers. The mastermind and pioneer behind Tribal Pinoy was (and is) Edwin Habacon, a native of Carson, California. (more)

Giolo (also Jeoly), "The Painted Prince," was born on the island of Moangis (located between Celebes and Mindanao) and was captured in the late 17th century along with his family after a misadventure at sea. By 1690, Giolo had already been sold twice into slavery when he came into the "possession" of buccaneer and naturalist William Dampier, who was sailing the world seeking profit and adventure. (more)
